Hot off the presses at Merryvale Vineyards: not just another 91-point rated wine, but also news that the winery is now able to host wedding receptions at their historic St. Helena facility. It’s great news for engaged couples looking for a memorable spot to hold their wedding reception in Napa Valley, where strict zoning laws have kept most wineries in Napa County from hosting wedding related events. But Merryvale, which lies within St. Helena limits, recently received approval from the city for wedding receptions as well as wedding rehearsal dinners.

Merryvale offers the perfect setting for wedding receptions no matter the time of year. The winery’s lavish and romantic wine cave – the historic “Cask Room” – is lined on either side with two stories of century-old, 2,000-gallon casks – is an ideal party spot year-round; then in fair weather, the reception can move outdoors onto the winery’s sprawling lawn. Either way, Merryvale can accommodate events for up to 112 guests for wedding receptions or rehearsal dinners, as well as private and corporate events.

Winery spokesperson Remi Cohen says that a two-hour consultation with Merryvale’s event planner is included with a wedding reception booking, and couples have a lot of flexibility in planning their special party at the winery. “We can make recommendations for vendors, but you can really create your own personalized event experience at Merryvale,” says Cohen.

And yes, there is another 91-point wine at Merryvale, not surprising for a winery that frequently racks up such high acclaim for its wines. This time the spotlight is on Merryvale’s 2007 Carneros Chardonnay (formerly known as the Reserve Chardonnay), which in its 91-point review Wine Spectator called “deliciously complex, with creamy oak wrapped around ripe pear, melon and green apple. Intense, full-bodied, vibrant and focused, with a long, clean finish.” Merryvale Vineyards has long been a popular destination for Wine Country visitors. The family-owned winery has been around for 25 years now operating out of the historic St. Helena building that was the first to be built in the Napa Valley after the end of Prohibition in 1933.

Merryvale’s tasting room has a seasoned, knowledgeable and friendly staff, and visitor friendly hours (open until 6:30 p.m. every day) and tasting choices. Visitors can just walk in, no appointment necessary, and choose from a selection of five different tastings. You prefer whites, but your date prefers reds? No problem at Merryvale, where the tasting choices include their Signature line-up, an all white tasting, and an all red tasting. There’s even a library flight available right at the bar, which a rare opportunity to try and buy a vertical (currently 1999, 2002, and 2003) of the winery’s prestigious Bordeaux-style blend, Profile.

Merryvale has one of the most popular wine clubs in Napa Valley. Members receive a whopping 30% off all club shipments, plus 20% off all additional wine and merchandise purchases, two complimentary bottles of wine after one year of membership and every subsequent anniversary as a thank you, complimentary tastings, complimentary wine seminars, and the list of benefits goes on!
