WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Winemaking
This second release of Syrah from our Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyard was co-fermented with whole cluster Viognier. The grapes spent thirty-six days on the skins (extended maceration); the free-run juice was drained to barrel and left on light lees. The wine was then aged in 70% new French Oak (Taransaud Beaune, Francois Freres, Gamba) for 12 months, and bottled without fining or filtration.

Vintage
The 2007 vintage was one of the best in recent memory. After a normal bud break, the valley experienced mild weather through the growing season with a slightly cooler summer and warm September. This climate resulted in slow, even ripening with a crop just slightly smaller than normal, and the highly desired small berry size. Winemakers across the valley are very excited about the 2007 vintage.

The Wine
Our Syrah shows intense aromas of black plum, dried fig and smoked meat framed by spice, stone and mineral notes, toast and espresso bean. The texture is rich across the mid-palate with great concentration and depth. We love this wine with a grilled lamb chops and mint sauce.
