WINEMAKER'S NOTES
Our Juliana Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc comes from very low yielding vines. The fruit is fermented slowly at cool temperatures (50° to 58°F) in French oak (47% new) barrels. Our intent is to preserve and enhance the delicate varietal nuances, while enhancing the wine with some subtle barrel notes. We blend in 10% Semillon for additional mouthfeel and aromatics.
The 2006 vintage has been described as a "growers" year by some vintners. After a late bud break due to an unseasonably cool spring, the Napa Valley experienced a record setting heat wave in July which allowed the grapes to catch up in ripening. An ideal mild weather pattern came in August and an "Indian Summer" followed into October allowing for slow and even ripening resulting in acids and sugars in perfect harmony.
The finished wine has expressive aromatic notes of ripe, white peach, melon, papaya, guava and fig, with a hint of toast and vanilla bean. On the palate, the texture is round and the fruit plays off of a solid core, giving the wine both complexity and length. It finishes cleanly with both a refreshing citrus and mineral quality that will complement grilled fish or chicken, and your favorite shellfish.
