"...In search of the perfect bottle of Wine!"
2006 Merlot, Napa Valley
This very dark ruby colored Merlot from Merryvale finished in second place in our recent big blind tasting. It opens with a mild blackberry bouquet with a hint of cinnamon and coffee. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, nicely balanced, and smooth. The flavor profile is a tasty and appealing black raspberry with a touch of black pepper. The panel also detected some dark chocolate and gentle oak which added to the wines complexity. The finish is dry and its moderate dusty oak tannins are nicely prolonged. The panel felt this elegant Merlot would be a good pairing with Steak Diane. Enjoy!

"Robert Parker Reviews Merryvale"
2006 Merlot, Napa Valley
"A sleeper of the vintage, the 2006 Merlot (90% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon) offers smoky, charcoal, plum, licorice, currant, and berry notes as well as a soft, seductive texture, medium to full body, and a delicious, forward fruit character. It should drink well for 10-12 years.
"This is an impressive group of wines from Merryvale Vineyards, a winery whose offerings I have not tasted for many years."
