"Robert Parker Reviews Merryvale"

2006 'Profile', Napa Valley

"The 2006 Profile (82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc) is a beauty. The sweet, ripe tannins nicely frame this large-scaled, full-bodied wine. Its opaque ruby/purple color is followed by a fragrant bouquet of tobacco leaf, spice box, white chocolate, black currants, and plums. Deep, full-bodied, expansive, and savory, it will be even better after several more years of bottle age, and should easily last for two decades or more.

"This is an impressive group of wines from Merryvale Vineyards, a winery whose offerings I have not tasted for many years."

"Best of the Year Issue"

2006 'Profile', Napa Valley

“Profile has been an important, but sometimes overlooked, member of the Napa Valley pantheon for many years, and their ’06 shows why. It’s a rich, complex and smooth wine. Packed with blackberry, cassis and smoky, new oak flavors, it shows a firm structure of tannins and acidity. Beautiful now with a grilled steak, and should age well for at least a decade.”

2006 'Profile', Napa Valley

"This wine was my second favorite wine in a blind tasting of ultra premium 2006 Napa Cabs and blends. It was very dark ruby colored and opens with a pleasant light blueberry and black cherry bouquet. On the palate, this wine was full bodied, very nicely balanced, smooth and showed excellent finesse. The flavor profile is a delightful light blueberry and black cherry blend. There was also some nicely integrated light oak and a dash of black pepper. The finish is pleasantly dry and its fine tannins build up and sail away nicely. This elegant red blend is a very nice reflection of the vintage. I would pair this wine with a filet mignon at my favorite steak house over the next couple of years. Enjoy" - Ken
