Made by winemakers Sean Foster and Graham Wehmeier, this is a stellar offering with tasty arrays of cherries, red fruits and orange pekoe. Nice balance with freshness and depth, I cannot recommend it more highly and it is priced right — in the low $30s. You might also swing by the winery and try the other new offerings and get your own dose of local lore!

Cola and black cherry, with high-toned raspberry highlights; supple in texture and meaty in suggestion -- there's a lovely earthiness in there -- with just a trace of thyme spice in the finish. Sort of brings out the caveperson in you, wanting raw meat, barely seared by the fire.

Pinot noir is getting pretty pricey nowadays and $35 has become a reasonable cost for a decent one. We like this (Merryvale) pinot noir for its showy black cherry and strawberry flavors. Hints of tea and chocolate.
