"Merryvale's Wines"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

A bold statement of fleshy-yet-sharp iodine, peppermint and black ink, reinforced with layers of cassis and black currant that settle in for a long ride. This wine is just beginning its maturity, setting a good example why these wines require a judicious bit of time in bottle before the festivities commence.

"Family Winery a Sweet Treat"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

"For a wine lover, having dinner at Groth Vineyards and Winery is just about as good as it gets.

"Add a few Napa pals such as Merryvale, Signorello and Diamond Creek and a great night turns into a magical evening of scrumptious food paired with exquisite wines.

"As a treat, to end the evening, we enjoyed a Merryvale Profile 1999 that is just now coming into its own. It was paired with three artisanal local cheeses. This is a wine that is chock full of plum, earth, currants, blueberry and cedar notes on the nose. It still has some tannic grip but drinking beautifully -- and a treat with the selection of cheeses.

"EXCEPTIONAL"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

Winemaker Steve Test established himself as a serious player with superb cabernet and merlot vintages to his credit during his tenure at Stonestreet. He hasn’t missed a beat since moving over to the Napa Valley from Sonoma, and his ‘99 Profile is proof positive. Profile ‘99 is one of the top reds of the vintage in Napa, a dark, concentrated, intense blockbuster.

" 93 POINTS / HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

Excellent balance and depth of flavor to the Cabernet blend, with mocha-laced oak wrapped around ripe currant and blackberry fruit. It's seamless, and reveals extra flavor dimensions and elements of finesse that draw you back for another sip.

"PICK OF THE WEEK"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

First we notice the inky color of the Merryvale Profile 1999, Napa Valley, blended by winemaker Stephen Test. Then the bouquet comes up, teeming with licorice, violets, spicy oak and minerals. But in the mouth, all pretense of prettiness falls away, leaving bastions of dusty oak and tides of polished, grainy tannins. This is, in other words, a wine whose raison d'etre at present involves structure and foundation and hints of what's to come. Excellent potential in six to ten years.

"...EXCELLENT!"

1999 'Profile', Napa Valley

FOUR STARS! Supple and complex, this is an excellent wine, which intensely flavored, somewhat woody, and long on the finish. It tastes of toasted oak, tobacco, herbs, kola nut, and vanilla.
